1)  Ask Questions: Get feedback on a regular basis and try to implement as much of it as possible 

2) Don't Berate:  Everyone has a different learning curve Find out the root cause of what's holding them back

3) Provide Opportunities: Break monotony by giving them new projects to work on, or encourage them to initiate something themselves. 

4) Have Faith: When it comes to performance, be patient, show empathy and believe in your employees

5) Set Goals Together: Instead of dictating terms coach them on ways, they can achieve goals and brainstorm ways they can uniquely contribute.
